I expect a significant increase in the adoption or expansion of remote patient monitoring programs in 2025 as practices prepare for the upcoming CPT code changes slated to take effect in 2026. As announced at the end of 2024, the AMA CPT Editorial Panel recommended that patients only need to submit 2 days versus 16 days of monitoring data for physicians to bill for reimbursement; the panel also reduced their related time requirements from 20 to 10 minutes. To ensure these virtual care services are a rewarding financial ROI, practices should develop remote management experience in collecting and analyzing data, communicating with patients, and filing claims. Next year will offer the perfect opportunity to build that knowledge base so that they can hit the ground running in 2026.
